EXWELL AND NEIC (DUBLIN'S NORTH EAST
INNER CITY PROGRAMME) PRESENTS: MEDICALLY REFERRED EXERCISE CLASSES FOR FREE
We are delighted to announce our collaboration with the NEIC - Dublin's North East Inner City programme. Together, we hope to provide our medically referred exercise classes for free to those in the surrounding area.
Classes will take place to the right of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Sean McDermott street.
What do we do in the classes?
Classes are 45 minutes in duration and involve a combination of aerobic (marching on the spot/toe taps etc), resistance (using weights) as well as core strength and balance exercises, led by trained instructors.
If any participant has specific requirements we can accommodate this.
After each class, tea/coffee is served to encourage social interaction between participants. At ExWell, enjoyment and fun are a priority along with safety.
Is it safe to attend classes due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation?
Yes, it is.
We applied to the HSE and received an exemption from Dr Colm Henry, the National Clinical Advisor and Programme Lead for Acute Hospitals in the HSE. He deemed ExWell to be an essential service within medical care. This allowed us to proceed with our outdoor classes in Level 5 and any further subsequent lockdowns. We have run outdoor classes very successfully over the last few months in our Tallaght and Clontarf locations.
-
Everyone must book in so we can control numbers and contact trace if necessary.
-
Participants will be placed at least 2 meters apart with all chairs and dumbbells sanitised between each class.
-
Being outdoors means we can provide appropriate ventilation.
-
Gazebo tents will be set up to provide shelter.
How do I get started with ExWell Medical?
We accept referrals from any healthcare professional that has access to your medical background.
For example: doctors/nurses/physiotherapist/occupational therapists/dieticians).
Referrals MUST contain;
-
Your contact information (phone/email)
-
Your brief medical background
-
Your medication list
This referral must then be sent via email to exwellmedical@healthmail.ie.
Who do we accept to ExWell Medical?
At ExWell Medical we try to cater for everyone.
We believe that everyone can participate to some extent and that any form of exercise will be helpful.
We accept all chronically ill participants meaning those with any long term conditions such as heart disease, neuromuscular disease, mental health, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, bowel disease etc.
Sometimes, we identify participants who need one-to-one attention in order to participate and we endeavour to provide this assistance. If you require help with personal care whilst you are attending ExWell Medical (such as going to the bathroom, washing, dressing etc) we advise that you bring along a carer/family member/friend to assist you.
