Lar Bradshaw
Exwell's Board Chairman
Lar Bradshaw spent the majority of his career with McKinsey & Co, joining the firm in London, and enjoying stints in Paris, Milan and Boston. He was a Director of the worldwide firm for many years. In 1994 he set up the Irish practice of the firm, which he led until he “retired” in 2004. Lar was Chairman of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority from 1997 to 2007, Chairman of Centric Health from inception until 2010, and has chaired / acted as non-exec Director for several companies in both the public and private arenas. He was also a director of Orbis Ireland for several years. He currently advises a number of companies and continues to serve on several boards. He is a lifelong friend of Dr Noel McCaffrey.
Dr Noel McCaffrey
CEO of ExWell Medical
Dr. Noel McCaffrey is ExWell's CEO. He is a Sports and Exercise Medicine specialist, former DCU lecturer, Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and Consultant in Sports Medicine in Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital. He led the development and growth of ExWell's predecessor programme (called MedEx) in DCU for 11 years. Noel left DCU to ‘follow the dream’ and founded ExWell Medical as a social enterprise to roll out the rebranded ExWell programme nationally. In 2022, Noel was honoured when named as a United National Decade of Healthy Aging Top 50 World Leader.
Anne Dermody
Board Member
Anne Dermody has had a long career in Sales and Marketing. She spent the majority of her career as Head of Sales and Marketing for the global toy and game company Hasbro. Her most recent position was Business Development Director with Rethink Ireland where she led the fundraising team to raise €75m over a 6 year period. It was through this role that she met Dr Noel McCaffrey and became inspired by his work with ExWell. Anne is passionate about the power of exercise and coaches an ID Team at Botanic Hockey Club.
Professor Sean Kennelly
Board Member
Professor Sean Kennelly MB PhD FRCP(Lond) FRCPI, is a consultant physician in geriatric and stroke medicine and clinical lead for the community integrated care team for older people in Tallaght University Hospital. He is director of the tertiary referral memory service at TUH, hospital clinical lead for the ExWell program in Tallaght Leisure Centre, clinical associate professor of medical gerontology in Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and principal investigator in the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience. One of his main research interests is Alzheimer’s disease, and he was co-principal investigator on the first Irish National Audit of Dementia (INAD) care in acute hospitals. He is a faculty member for the global brain health institute in TCD, a member of the clinical and research advisory panel for the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland and associate dean of higher specialty training in general internal medicine in the RCPI.
Susan Smith
Board Member
Susan Smith is Professor of General Practice at Trinity College Dublin and works as a General Practitioner at Inchicore Family Doctors in Dublin 8. Her research interests include improving outcomes for patients with multimorbidity and related clinical issues such as medicines management, including access to medicines. She has been the PI or Co-PI on eight RCTs of interventions for chronic disease management in Irish primary care settings. She is an editor and author with the Cochrane Collaboration and is an advocate for Evidence Based Medicine and Shared Decision Making. She also has an interest in health equity and coordinates the Deep End Ireland Group, which advocates for appropriate primary care services for socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. During the COVID-19 pandemic she has been a member of the HIQA COVID19 Expert Advisory Group, which provides evidence-based guidance to inform public policy and guidance.
Clive Kilmurray
Board Member
Clive Kilmurray has 20 years’ experience in corporate finance, private equity, and real estate. He most recently co-founded two businesses, OSLO Beauty which focuses on hair and beauty services (and includes a health studio), and OROKO Travel, a luxury travel specialist. Prior to this he was a co-founder and director of Cove Capital, a Dublin based Private Equity vehicle. He also has extensive experience in property investment and development as principal, and has advised many of Ireland’s leading companies whilst working in investment banking with IBI. He is a former board member of numerous private companies and a former non-executive director of Easons.
Chris Kelly
Board Member
Chris Kelly is a retired senior executive with CRH Group. A chemical engineer by profession, he worked in various management roles with CRH over 38 years, based in Ireland, Africa, and China, implementing Operational Excellence programmes and leading technical due diligence teams in China, Vietnam, Spain and North America. After retiring in 2013 he worked as a consultant in China at the request of CRH’s Joint Venture partner in 2014/15, advising the Country Director and the Operational Excellence team. He led cement company acquisition technical due diligence teams in Philippines, Brazil and South Africa, focused on mining and on all aspects of cement plant operations from quarry to dispatch. Chris is a ‘nuts and bolts’ man, with extensive management, mentoring and leadership experience through growth / recession cycles in business. He has also worked in the International Aid and charity fundraising sectors in Africa. Chris currently attends the ExWell programme.
David Beirne

David Beirne is Vice President of UPMC International and Country Manager for UPMC in Ireland, with responsibility for overseeing the development of a joint venture cancer in Cork in partnership with Bon Secours Health System, and for integrating the UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre with the new facility in Cork. In addition, He is UPMC’s lead on business development activities in Ireland and other countries. Previously, he worked in finance leadership roles with McInerney Plc, Glanbia Plc and PriceWaterhouseCoopers and also served as CEO at the Whitfield Clinic. David has been a strong supporter of ExWell since meeting Noel a year ago and his plans include incorporating the ExWell service in WIT into UPMC’s cancer care offering, as well as supporting the expansion of this model across Ireland, and possibly into the US (via UPMC).
Diarmuid McNamee
Diarmuid McNamee is Managing Director of TowerView, an investment and advisory firm in Dublin specialising in the health and social care sector across Ireland and the UK. TowerView advises and invests in growing Irish companies across all healthcare sub-sectors. Diarmuid was Group CFO with the Mater Private Healthcare Group for 9 years, during which the Group developed new healthcare facilities in a number of new locations and also set up and successfully operated cancer centre facilities in the UK. Previously, Diarmuid was a Director of Corporate Finance with NCB, advising Irish and international clients on mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity fundraisings and strategic developments. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and operates as Chairman and Board director of a number of companies and is also a Board Director and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee of Dublin Simon.
